Reminiscence of Home / Sjećanje na Dom - Paul Auster
Reminiscence of Home
True north. Vincent’s north.
The glimpsed
unland of light. And through each fissure
of earth, the indingo
fields that burn
in a seething wind of stars.
What is locked
in the eye that possessed you
still serves
as an image of home: the barricade
of an empty chair, and the father, absent,
still blooming in his urn
of honesty.
You will close your eyes.
In the eye of the crow who flies before you,
you will watch yourself
leave yourself behind.

Sjećanje na Dom
Pravi sjever. Vinsentov sjever.
Nazrijeti
lišenu svjetlost. I kroz svaku pukotinu
zemlje, indingo
polja koja gore
u kipećem vjetru zvijezda.
Ono što je zaključano
u oku što te je posjedovalo
i dalje služi
kao slika doma: barikada
prazne stolice, a otac, odsutan,
još uvijek cvjeta u svojoj urni
iskrenosti.
Zatvorićeš oči.
U oku vrane koja leti ispred tebe,
gledaćeš kako
ostavljaš sebe za sobom.

From one stone touched
to the next stone
named: earth-hood: the inaccessible
ember. You
will sleep here, a voice
moored to stone, moving through
this empty house that listens
to the fire that destroyed it. You
will begin. To drag your body
from the ashes. To carry the burden
of eyes.

XI
Od jednog kamena dotaknutog
do sljedećeg kamena
nazvanog: Zemlja: nepristupačan
žar. Ti
ćeš ovdje spavati, glas
se vezao za kamen, krećući se kroz
ovu praznu kuću koja sluša
vatru koja ju je uništila. Ti
ćeš početi. Da odvlačiš svoje tijelo
iz pepela. Da nosiš teret
očiju.

Puls / Pulse - Paul Auster
Pulse
This that recedes
will come near to us
on the other side of day.
Autumn: a single leaf
eaten by light: and the green
gaze of green upon us.
Where earth does not stop,
we, too, will become this light,
even as the light
dies
in the shape of a leaf.
Gaping eye
in the hunger of day.
Where we have not been
we will be. A tree
will take root in us
and rise in the light
of our mouths.
The day will stand before us.
The day will follow us
into the day.

Puls
Ovo što se povlači
približiće nam se
na drugoj strani dana.
Jesen: jedan list progutan
svjetlošću: i zeleni
pogled zelenog na nas.
Tamo gdje se zemlja ne zaustavlja,
i mi ćemo postati ovo svjetlo,
čak i kad svjetlost
umre
u obliku lista.
Razjapljeno oko
u gladi dana.
Tamo gdje nijesmo bili
bićemo. Drvo će
pustiti korjen u nama
i uzdići se u svjetlost
naših usta.
Dan će stati pred nama.
Dan će nas pratiti
u dan.

Pogovor / Epilogue

Here comes an Epiloque signed by the literary critic Jovanka Vukanović for the poetry book named Never touching the stone beach shore.
Epilogue
On this occasion, Tijana Živaljević is speaking through a poetic manuscript, reaffirming once again the persona of an author who already has an established literary process and idea framework. Grouped around several points of issue, her poetic engagement has expressed the complete weight and severity of analytical and consistent perspective on life. What kind of points are on Tijana Živaljević's exploratory road?
Firstly, there is a prevalent dialogue component between the poetic Subject and "the rest" of the world. Their shared mirroring, transfusion, balancing, and shutting off at times, which often adds dramatic aura to poetesses' manuscript. Therefore, the author as an individual, is frequently alone against the others, against the known and unknown landscapes, childhood, recently started paths, tomorrow, the uncertainty that lurks upon us from the future…
The second theme which has captured the attention of Tijana Živaljević is love. The phenomenon that gives purpose to our lives through permeation of human experiences, dreams, hopes, temptations, oblivion and remembrance. The author has displayed her sensitivity in the most distinctly hued poetic imagery, in the discreet accents of dramatic weaving among two beings who represent our individual yearning for freedom, but also to the core familiarity with the Other, as through a personal mirror. The closeness we share with somebody, is what we are actually, constantly seeking, because it is both present and absent, in one surge of emotions which are never eternally defined.
The third segment of the content of this manuscript is the poetesses' focus on the one constant which defines us from birth until death – safety provided by home, doorstep, as the only and the most truthful witnesses of our innocence, unrepeatable closeness of one terrain, which will remain a backbone to our being, regardless of where we are, where we go and whatever we strive for.
Tijana Živaljević is the poetess with a developed poetic vision, mature literary process, with an equally heightened sensitivity to lyrical and reflexive interpretation of the world. Her expression is ultimately reduced, direct, often followed by juxtaposed imagery in which the entire drama of our lives is being manifested head-on within the confines of the daily existential lane, but also that belonging to more profound, universal meanings.
Tijana Živaljević's poetry will, therefore, signify a new literary experience in the written scene of Montenegro, which is the reason why I wholeheartedly recommend it to be printed.
